Murder-Suicide in Las Vegas: Schinara Patterson and Her Children Killed by Marvin Patterson

In a shocking incident that has left the Las Vegas community in mourning, Marvin Ray Patterson, a man charged with child sex crimes, allegedly killed his wife Schinara Patterson and her three children before committing suicide. The tragic event unfolded at an apartment in the northwest valley and has since sparked conversations about domestic violence and the justice system’s handling of sex crime cases.

Marvin Ray Patterson Murder-Suicide, What Actually Happened?

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, 42-year-old Marvin Ray Patterson was on house arrest and had been charged with child sex crimes prior to the horrifying incident. He allegedly shot his wife Schinara, also known as Nara, and their three children – 13-year-old Kiziah, an 11-year-old boy, and 6-year-old Zimyra – inside their second-story apartment on Oso Blanca Road and Durango.

A GoFundMe page created by Micheala Bernoudy identified the victims. Of the children, Kiziah and Zimyra tragically lost their lives, while the 11-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital. Zimyra was the child that Nara and Patterson had together. Marriage records reveal that Patterson and Nara were wed, with their marriage license filed on May 5, 2019, under the names Schinara Shinek Patterson and Schinara Shinek Bernoundy.

Marvin Patterson Criminal History

Documents from the Las Vegas Justice Court show that Patterson was arrested and charged with child sex crimes in October 2022. He faced nine felony charges, including two counts of sexual assault with a child under sixteen, one count of lewdness with a child under sixteen, five counts of lewdness with a child under fourteen, and one count of first-degree kidnapping of a minor. The offenses were believed to have occurred between 2014 and 2022.

Initially, Judge Jessica Green granted Patterson a $100,000 bail with strict electronic monitoring, requiring him to surrender his passport and avoid contact with anyone under the age of 18. Two months later, Judge Diana Sullivan reduced the bail to $10,000, maintaining the same conditions.

Patterson’s defense lawyer requested the $10,000 bail, despite opposition from the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. A jury trial for Patterson’s case was scheduled for April 2024 after being transferred to the Clark County District Court earlier this year.
